1890s Plateu cornhusk bag made of natural fibers with dyed fibers and germantown yarns, measures 16 ½ x 13 inches.Stylized stars in blue, red, yellow and black. Geometric shapes in red and blue.
These wonderful baskets, were originally used for berry picking but soon became a status symbol for their beauty and how well they were woven. The earliest bags were decorated with dyed husks and later incorporated yarns for the designs. This particular bag uses both. They always have a different design front to back so we like to either display them so that you can see both sides (like on a coffee table) or on a wall whre you can turn them around so you can enjoy either side.
