Born in New Mexico in 1943, Alice Warder Seely is of Spanish, American Indian and Anglo descent. Her father, William Warder, was a muralist and landscape painter. She grew up in Santa Fe in the company of artists including Josef Bakos, Cyrus Baldridge and Gustave Baumann all of whom influenced her work. Seely's step-father was Navajo artist Ha-So-De (Narciso Abeyta) and his influence can be seen in the palette of her paintings. She also finds inspiration through her love of the history of the American southwest. Alice Seely is known for her modernist paintings as well as pewter jewelry and sculpture.
