Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Laurence B. Field was a painter and graphic artist. Field was best known for his Colorado landscapes. He studied at the Cleveland School of Art from 1927 to 1931. He won a post-graduate scholarship to go to Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, Austria in 1931, where he specialized in graphic arts under Loeffler and Kirnig.
From 1931 to 1932, Field traveled extensively in Europe and Tunisia. In 1932, he went back to the Cleveland School of Art for post-graduate study. Field also studied at the John Huntington Polytechnic Institute and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (then known as the Broadmoor Art Academy). At the Fine Arts Center, Field studied under Boardman Robinson, and he taught at the Fine Arts Center from 1933 to 1939.
From 1950 to 1975, Field worked in the commercial art and printing business. His works were exhibited at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1935, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in 1936, and the World's Fair in New York in 1939. Field lived in Colorado Springs from the time he studied there until his death in 1999.
