Roland Detre, a native of Hungary, was born in 1903. He studied painting at the Budapest Academy. Detre lived in Berlin, Paris and Switzerland prior to immigrating to the United States in 1950. He settled for a time in New York City before moving permanently to Denver, Colorado in search of treatment for tuberculosis at National Jewish Hospital. Detre was active in the Denver artist community and is known for his abstract paintings.
