Ernest Henry Pohl was a native of Detroit, Michigan. He specialized in pastels and oil paintings. His best known works include desert landscapes of Coachella Valley. Although he was born in the east, he was drawn to the western landscape. Pohl took up residence in San Diego where he was a professional businessman and painter.
Pohl was very active in the San Diego Art community. Together with his wife, he founded the La Jolla Art Center. He taught at the University of Notre Dame.
