Classic Period, circa 1860, Chief's Blanket in a Third Phase pattern. This chiefs blanket is woven in traditional 3rd phase design with nine diamiond elements in red and blue against a classic banded ground of ivory and brown. Woven of native handspun churro wool in natural colors of white (ivory) and brown with indigo dyed blue and cochineal dyed red (3-ply Saxony and raveled 3-ply Bayeta).
Provenance:
Acquired in the 1870's by a Denver, Colorado family as a gift following the birth of a son.
