About the Artist
A native of Oklahoma, James Black is a Southern Cheyenne Sundance priest. His traditional style ledger art has been exhibited at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum. He presently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is pursuing a degree in museum studies at the Institute of American Indian Arts. He hopes to one day establish a museum that focuses on the self-representation of the Southern Cheyenne people.
