About the Artist

Born in Palisade, Colorado, Fletcher Martin was given instruction in printmaking as a child. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, commencing in 1922..

He earned his living as a printmaker until the mid 1930s. During the second World War, he served as an artist war correspondent for Life Magazine, covering the African campaign in 1943 and Normandie in 1944.

His first Exhibit was held at Dalzell Hatfield Galleries in 1933. Martin's first museum one-man show at San Diego Fine Arts Gallery in 1934.
