About the Artist

Born in Vermon in 1847, Henry Arthur Elkins relocated with his family to Chicago around the age of 9. Elkins studied briefly under Albert Bierstadt and was otherwise largely self taught. In the summer of 1866, Henry Elkins traveled with a group of friends from Chicago to Illinois. He spent the remainder of his life traveling and painting the American West. Elkins became popular within Denver society for his western and mountain landscape paintings.
