In 1957, she began formal art studies at the University of Colorado's Denver Center. She was later accepted to the University of Denver (DU) where she studied under Vance Kirkland. Rosen earned a Master of Arts degree in painting from DU. In 1964, she joined the DU faculty in the art department where she would teach for 19 years. In 1975, she became the first woman to gain tenure in the art department. In addition to creating her own painting and sculpture, Rosen was a founder of the Denver Sculpture Symposium.
