About the Artist
Jon Blanchette was born in England in 1908. Blanchette moved with his family to the United States in 1918, settling in Battle Creek, Michigan. He studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute. In 1932, Blanchette moved to Los Angeles, California. He worked as a commercial artist for Fox Studios. In 1948, he settled permanently in Santa Cruz, California. In Santa Cruz, he gave private lessons while concentrating most of his time on painting. Blanchette was a member of the Santa Cruz art League and the Marin County Artists. He is best known for his oil paintings of Northern California including Santa Cruz, Mendocino, Monterey, Watsonville and Aptos.
