Classic Period Beaded Tobacco Bag, circa 1870
An exceptional tobacco/pipe bag from the late Classic period (pre or early reservation era). Constructed of native tanned hide and expertly beaded with trade beads. The fringe has been rubbed in blue ochre and the upper body of the bag in yellow ochre.
The Arapaho, members of the Plains Indian culture group, were nomadic with territory extending across parts of present day Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas.
