Plains Beaded Tobacco Bag, circa 1880

An exceptional 19th century Plains Indian tobacco bag (pipe bag) from the late Classic period. Constructed of native tanned hide, sinew-sewn, and expertly beaded with trade beads in greasy yellow, Dark and light red white hearts, green, three shades of blue (dark, medium light), green. Drop tabs with beaded horse stealing tracks and the center tabs have beaded slits. 32 ½ inches in length (including fringe)

The Arapaho, members of the Plains Indian culture group, were nomadic with territory extending across parts of present day Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas.
