Artist Biography - Lewis Tilley (1921-2005)

Lew Tilley (born 1921 Parrott, GA) Studied High Museum School of Art, Atlanta, 1937-39; Emory University, 1937-39; University of Georgia, Athens with Jean Charlot, John Held, Jr. (BFA, 1942); Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center with Boardman Robinson, Adolf Dehn, 1942-45; Institute Allende, University of Guanajuato, Mexico (MFA, 1968); British Film Institute, 1972-75; University of Georgia, Cortona, Italy, 1985. Taught: Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, 1945-51, 59 (summer-first as an assistant to Robinson, then as full-time instructor); University of Southern Colorado, 1965-86 (currently professor emeritus). Producer/director for Alexander Film Company, Colorado Springs, 1958-62; artist-in-residence, University of Georgia in Cortona, Italy, 1985; columnist Your Amiga, London, 1986-present; working with computer images (1999). Murals: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs, 1958; Victor Hornbein House, Denver 1959; First National Bank, Colorado Springs, 1959; Horace Mann Junior High, Colorado Springs, 1962. Exhibitions: American Federation of the Arts, Denver Art Museum, Artists West of the Mississippi, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Chicago Renaissance Society, Washington Cathedral Exhibition of Religious Art, Dallas Print and Drawing Show, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts.
