Artist Biography - Walter Blakelock Wilson

Walter Blakelock Wilson was born in Auburn, New York in 1929. He developed an early love for art through the paintings of his great-grandfather, Hudson River School painter, Ralph Albert Blakelock. Wilson trained in portrait painting and graduated with honors from Colgate University in 1951. He joined the United States Air Force and served as a pilot during the Korean War. During this time, he was also assigned to paint portraits of generals along with a mural of the history of the U.S. Air Force. Wilson and his young family settled permanently in Colorado Springs in 1956. He worked as the head of the art department at the Fountain Valley School for 26 years. During this time, he continued his studies in art, earning a master's degree in art from Colorado College in 1964. His paintings are held in numerous corporate and private collections as well as in the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
